No, not Ben Who, Ben Huh?

During a reality show taping for Lolwork, I tried to inform Ali Luhrs and Paul Gude that dogs were imminently cuter, funnier and more photogenic than cats.
They were like, "No way."
I was like, "So, totally."
Then they got like all "we're gonna call BEN" and see what he says.
"Right," I said, "Ben Who?"
"BEN HUH!" said Ali.
"Ben, what?" I asked.
"Not Ben What," Paul responded, "Ben Huh."
"Huh?"

"Yeah, Ben Huh!" said Ali in that way she says things ... like her brain is going to explode from two cents worth of information.  She went to Western.  I went to Evergreen.  Enough said.  We're both sub-geniuses.
"What?" I asked.
"Not WHAT!" Paul said.  "Huh!"
"Huh?" I asked.
"That's right," Paul shouted quite dramatically. "Huh!"

I am not really sure what I can tell you. 
The papers I signed were many pages, and the production assistant did not give me a copy.  The production assistant was cute and, in all fairness, I didn't ask for copies.
But I think the contract said that if they killed me, they would under no circumstances be responsible for their own actions.  Really, it said that.  I think it also said that if I talked about anything they would be allowed to kill me.
So, I think promised to never ever talk about Lolwork or the secret experiments performed upon me while they filmed Lolwork.  I think I also promised not to divulge the fact that Iggy Pop is my fraternal twin brother.  (Proof?  See photo above.)  Oooops.

So I am not going to talk about any of that.

I will tell you that I got to go to Gasworks Park and play Frisbee with my dog and nobody yelled at me to put my dog on a leash.  That was cool.   I keep waiting for Bravo television to show pictures of me and my beautiful dog on the boob tube, but to no avail.  Back to Youtube for Zoozoo and Mike McKenzie.  Pronto.

Spoiled Children

We did an indoor practice this morning.  It was freezing cold outside like all the mud puddles were frozen.  Kess the Tripaw was being awesome as usual.  This is my friend's dog, but I really like her.  She's just a little girly dog.  She's so happy.

Zoozoo got a lesson in how to "back up."  Seriously, if we stick with it Zoozoo will have another trick for her routine.  All our friends were there ... Buzz, Gus, Kess, Suki, Levi.

Zoozoo snuggles?  Is it time to take a nap?

Perhaps we could snuggle on the couch for a while before we take a walk.  Just a little mid afternoon snuggle, okay?  Then we'll have a snack and another walk and sleep and snuggle some more.

RED DOG BATTLES THE HOSE MONSTER

They say that Border Collies are the smartest dogs in the world.  I guess "they" never met my little Red Dog.

Red Dog was smart, but more devious than genius.  He was also super nervous and neurotic ... sort of like a canine Woody Allen.  When I used to do shows with him, I would have the announcer ask if there was a "Doggy Psychiatrist" in the house.  Why? Because Red Dog was a little crazy.

I tried playing frisbee with Red Dog.  Actually, he was my performance or show dog for almost two years, but he was never entirely reliable.  He would have good shows and bad shows ... but his anxieties got the better of him and he started shutting down when he was asked to perform in public.

He was good at disc.  He could do all the tricks.  The problem was that he had total stage fright.

When he started refusing on me, I had no choice but to retire him and look for another dog.  But that left me with the world's cutest dog and no job for that dog to do.  That's why I started doing Youtube ... it was so that Red Dog would have a hobby -- comedy and acting.

Red Dog wasn't good at the stuff most dogs are good at ... but he was the best at sitting pretty for a treat, wearing funny hats and costumes, and having his picture taken.  I made a lot of videos about Red Dog, and he was the best dog at making videos.

Since late 2008 I have taken tons of video of Red Dog.  As he recently passed away, I am going back through my digital archives to see what projects I may have started or thought about over that time ... sort of so that I can show the world how much I loved this little fellow, so I can look back years from now and remember him, so that everyone can know the love I had for him.

ZooZoo Disc Dog

My sweet little girlfriend, Zoozoo.  Always ready to jump in the car, go somewhere and play disc.  She never fails.  Nothing scares her.  She has drive.

This video was made of some old cell phone video of Zoozoo.  Okay, so I take a lot of cell phone video of Zoozoo.  Wide angle, fish eye, all that stuff, yeah.

Then I took a scrap of music and pinned it onto the mix.  Sounded okay, I thought.  I've done worse.  Is what I do like video scrapbooking?  Is video just the newest form of diary?  People in the future will make videos rather than write or just speak them. It's the ultimate creative sticky note, waiting to be scribbled on, waiting to be shouted at.

Recently I told a guy to chase a disc.  He was going to race Zoozoo to catch one.  Sounds like a good idea, huh?  Sure, right up until the time that Zoozoo jumps higher than the guy's head and destroys the disc about two feet away from him.

He came walking back with this stunned look on his face.  Like, 'you didn't just try to wipe me out with your dog, did you?'  I told him to count his fingers.  I'm not sure why I was vibing that I should be rough on this guy, but I was being rough on this guy.  However, he did get the upclose disc dog experience.  But, truthfully, I also told him that I wanted to make him close.  I didn't mean to scare him.  Either he or Zoozoo could have caught the disc, but I still would have bet on Zoozoo even if he hadn't pulled up short.

Maybe it's just because I've been a cranky old man lately. Did you just read that, Caryl?  Daddy just said he gets cranky.  Bing Crosby called and said we should move to Pocatello.

Awesome Dog Trick

Julian and Dodger performing indoors.  Dodger is getting up in years, but can still kick it with the young dogs.  I would call the first trick a "back vault mouth toss."  The second trick is a more traditional "leap in arms," which this team does a really nice job of.

This was at the Seattle Kennel Club dog show in Seattle in March of 2012.  It's a little bit odd because our group WOOFD2 (Washington Owners of Flying Disc Dogs) is all about rescue and foster, but the kennel club is breeders.  Anyway, it was an indoor gig and it was a lot of fun.  Met some cool people too!

This video was made on my iPhone as I was madly dashing about announcing and performing with my dog.  I edited the video on iMovie, then tweaked it further in Final Cut Pro X.

Iphone 4s Review:  decent image quality, given that I shot it with backlighting (see that gargantuan window on the left) that wanted to heaving darken out the rest of the image.  I had some trouble finding the buttons on the camera and recording when I thought I was recording, but that will come in time.

The sound was awesome that day, no copyrighted music to worry about, just a voice and crowed reaction.  I really wish I had caught more video.

The backlighting issue was resolved in Final Cut Pro X, where I color balanced the video and tweaked it bring up he detail in the floor and the audience.  It looked bad before I did that, but it looks pretty good now.

The slow motion segments are at 60%.  Yeah, 80% would have given me a better frame rate (24 fps rather 18 fps) so that's why there's some streaking lines through the slo mo.

I was also really glad to catch some nice video of J and Dodger, because they have been my friends for a number of years.
