Blue Jelly Fish with a Sail - Newport Oregon - Velella Jelly Fish

Anyone up for Jelly Fishing?

These little jelly fish have a sail that they use to travel.  They are called Velella Jelly Fish.  I had never seen one before, so I snapped a photo and did some googling.  No one else I ran into on the beach  knew what these were called.

These little jelly fishes are so obscure that they are NOT listed on Wikipedia.  But they are ever so cute and very well designed.  They go a little crazy during the "dating season," and sometimes bunches of them end up on the beach.  That's what I saw, hundreds of these little creatures covering the beach in Newport, Oregon.  Their little sails pointing toward the sky.

How did I identify this Pacific Ocean sea creature?  When my effort to identify it on Wikipedia failed, I went to some very simple googlings … like, "blue jelly fish with a sail on the oregon coast." But that failed as well.

I was pretty sure that it was a jelly fish, although the blue color made me think that it was a Portuguese Man of War.  Then I got lucky.

A friend recommended that I check a local news source at http://www.newslincolncounty.com and there I identified my jelly fish.  These jelly fish are called Velella Jelly Fish or Sail Jelly Fish.

Awesome Food - Pork Taquitos from Pura Vida in McMinnville Oregon

Allow me to share some nice food with you.  This is an $8 order of pork taquitos from Pura Vida in McMinnville, Oregon.  This plate of food was adequate for me, but I am a light eater.  Eat more at risk to your own pocketbook.  The presentation was awesome and the entree was laid upon a bed of thin slices cabbage and greens.  Next time I will try the Cuban sandwich.

You are nothing! Observed in a shop window in the downtown area of Portland,  Oregon.  Valentines Day 2013.  You are nothing ... without feminist art.  I had to agree strongly.  That's correct!   I would be nothing without feminist art.  Not really, but maybe.  I guess.  Is that a weird thing to have to admit?  This is the reason why I must move to Portland, Oregon.   These questions must be investigated, considered and decided in a fair and objective manner over a nice meal and a long weekend.  Cheers to all!

Poppa Wheelie Dog

Wheel Chair Dog wants to pop a wheelie.

All joking aside, the story of how this dog lost its front legs is truly awful.  People injured him, then let him lie suffering until he almost died.  Almost.  Today this dog is a dog again.  A fur real dog who is cared for and (I must say) loved.  Portland, Oregon Pet Expo 2012.  

A lot of times "chair dogs" are tough to take care of.  I've just heard that from talking to the rescue organization I know up in the Puget Sound area.  

I asked the caretaker of this one how he was, and the answer was, "Oh, he's not bad at all."  And you should see of the range of goofy faces this dog can make.  This dog could be featured in a future dumb dog trick episode fur real, fur sure, crazy dumb, cute and awesome.  Have his agent call me.  Jimmyjumpnjive

Got time for one more photo?  This little ball of warm, furry cute was available for adoption.  Couldn't you just love on this little dog?  The first night I would stack blankets and play like "princess and the pea" for nighty nights with her.

A photo from the Portland Pet Expo, October 6, 2012 in Portland, Oregon.  I wish I would have had more time to talk with this lady about her dog, but time just wouldn't allow it.  I enjoy pet expos because I get to see dogs of all types but especially because I get to see service dogs in action.  My understanding in talking to people that a dog that serves a person in a wheel chair is generally called a "chair dog."  I also have been told that a request for a chair dog may take years to be filled.  Despite the agonizing wait, a service dog may make a world of difference in a disabled person's life, providing valuable assistance and companionship.  Jimmyjumpnjive 2012

Pardon my wiener

A well cared for wiener dog.

Portland Pet Expo. October 6, 2012.  Don't trip over my wiener.  Thank you to this nice human and his furry friend for allowing me to take their photograph.  I have so much fun at pet expos.  I meet so many people who are so into dogs.  It does my heart good.  

This is awesome fun.

The word "wiener" is just a funny word.  Have you ever called someone a "weenie"?  It's a silly word with a very slight naughty double entendre.  When Anthony Wiener was getting into so much trouble, I just couldn't keep a smile off my face because of his last name.  I know it's immature.  I know that it's a dumb joke.  I know that it's stupid.  But I still think it's funny.

Also, I've been homebound for a long stretch of time, so it was good to get out of the house.  I must thank Dr. Swainstein for chauffeuring me to and from the event.  Peace and love.

California is for Bullies

California Sea Lions, that is!  Har har ... You could hear this group of goofballs from a long ways off ... barking at each other ... laying in the sun on an unusually sunny Oregon Coast day.

Newport, Oregon.  Saw lots of whales spouting off Depoe Bay.  Like a dozen of them in the span of a half of an hour.  You'd see the whale sprays out a couple of hundred yards from shore, then the fins surfacing.  Really awesome.  Lots of people parked and watching. 

I don't enjoy traveling by car, but I'll put up with the sore neck if someone else drives and there's cool stuff to see when we get there.  Will there be animals?  Will those animals be big and cute?  Oh, goodie!

But the sea lions (yes, the CALIFORNIA sea lions) were being mean and not letting a yearling get up on the dock to the lay in the sun.  So rude.  So mean.  Like Kassem G when he does those "Going Deep" things, just awful and rude.
